The Prefecture of Serres boasts some of the most complex and fascinating traditions in Greece. The area is inhabited by people and communities of various cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds and therefore local traditions present an exceptional variety and diversity. Greeks of the Black Sea (Pontos), Asia Minor, Thrace, Vlachs and Sarakatsani are just a few examples of the local minorities that compose the cultural mosaic of the Prefecture. This cultural diversity has contributed to the development of various mores and customs and traditions of great interest.
