Transportation – General Information
The public transportation services in Serres are well organized and comprehensive. Buses of the regional collective known as KTEL connect the major cities as well as most rural areas of the prefecture and the construction works for the reconstruction of the provincial road are still conducted.
Buses connect Serres to Athens three times a day, and to Thessaloniki 33 times a day. There is also regular train service to and from other major cities of Greece. The railway station of Serres is housed in a beautiful building which was recently declared preserved monument.
The Prefecture of Serres does not have a port or airport. The nearest airport, and port, is Thessaloniki and in Kavala.
By car: Serres is an 8 hour drive from Athens (587 km) and there is also daily bus service connecting the two cities. From Thessaloniki to Serres it is an 1,5 hour drive (95 km.) and there is regular bus service (1,5 hours).

Regional Bus Service
In Serres there is daily bus service to the following destinations:
- Drama 11 buses a day (1 hour 45 min)
- Kavala 4 buses a day (1 hour 15 min)
- Kilkis (3 hours)
- Thessaloniki, from 5.30 am to 8.30 pm, every half an hour
