The Rock of “Katigkas”
One of the most picturesque walking trails of the forest of Lailia leads to an enormous rock, known as the rock of “Katigkas”. The Turks called it “Ayi-Kayasi”, which means “the rock of the bear”. From the top of this natural monument, clibbers can enjoy the uique view of the wonderful forest of Lailia any time of the year. According to local legends, the beautiful village girl, Katigka, leapt to her death from the high rock, driven to suicide by her unfortunate love for her loved one who broke his promises. It is said that as the wind blows through the branches of the trees you can still hear her desperate cry.
